“Tea Party!” “Ochakai!” (お茶会!)

Mio gets the feeling that someone is watching her, making her feel uneasy, though it turns out to be because she had a sticker on her hair. She is visited by Nodoka, along with a couple of members from Mio’s fan club. The girls are reminded of the previous year, where Mio felt like she was being stalked by someone and went to the student council for advice. There, she met the former student council president Megumi Sokabe, who suspiciously appeared to know a lot about her and the light music club. It was soon revealed that Megumi was not only Mio’s stalker, but was also president of her fan club who had wanted to see as much of her as possible before she graduated. As a graduation gift, Mio and the girls held a private concert just for her. After Megumi graduated, she passed the position of fan club president over to Nodoka. Since she had not found time to do anything for the club, Nodoka asks the light music club to hold a special tea party for them. Mio is initially embarrassed by all the skits, interviews and service she has to put up with, but warms up when she sees a slideshow of her times with the light music club. The event ends with a performance and a group photo, which Azusa sends to Megumi.

On a very rainy day, Yui gets completely soaked trying to keep her guitar from getting wet. While Yui lets her clothes dry, she temporarily wears a maid costume made by Sawako until she gets told off about it. Azusa later helps Yui maintain her guitar. When it continues to rain the next day, the others recommend Yui keep her guitar in the clubroom overnight, though it causes her to worry late at night. The following day, Yui is so overjoyed to be reunited with her guitar that she brings it to class, but Sawako tells her to put it away.

Azusa, along with her classmates Ui and Jun, spend time together while the light music club seniors are on their trip to Kyoto. Noticing that Ui would be lonely without her sister around, Azusa and Jun decide to sleepover at her house, in exchange for Azusa helping out with her underclassmen in the jazz club. After spending the night, they wake up to a rainy day. They go to an arcade where Ui hits a home run in a batting game, before Azusa is reminded that she needs to feed Ton. While in the light music club room, the three decide to have a jam session together. The other girls return the next day and give Azusa a keychain, one of a set that spells out “light music club”.

“Field Trip!” “Shūgaku Ryokō!” (修学旅行!)

The light music club seniors go on a school field trip to Kyoto. On the train there, Mio is a little annoyed at Yui and Ritsu’s childish behavior. Mio realizes that she will have to watch over both of them during the trip. After visiting various shrines and attractions, the group returns to the inn where the bad habits of the girls continue to annoy Mio as well as Sawako. The next day, they have a look around Kyoto, though Mio laments that no one wants to participate in any tourist activities. However, when they get lost on the way back to the train station along with Nodoka’s group, Mio gives in to the jokey nature of the others and loosens up for the rest of the trip.

After noticing how badly she shows up in videos of the band’s performances, Ritsu decides she does not want to be the drummer anymore as she does not stand out enough. She tries playing the guitar but cannot get beyond the basics. She tries the keyboard next, but only goes as far as playing with all the sound effects. The next day, Yui tries coming up with various ways to make Ritsu stand out, but with no such luck. Later that night, Ritsu recalls when she first started drumming and practicing every day. After watching a video of The Who in concert, she realizes that even though she is not always in the spotlight, she loves playing the drums. The next day, Tsumugi shows off a new song, calling it “Honey Sweet Tea Time”, through the inspiration of when Ritsu tried playing the keyboard the day before.

While clearing their personal belongings out of the club room, the girls find an old guitar that used to belong to Sawako. Since it had aged a bit, Sawako allows the girls to sell it and add the money to the club’s budget. After visiting a home superstore to buy a storage shelf, they take the guitar to the music store where they are surprised to find it valued at ¥500,000. When Sawako inquires about the sale, Ritsu tries lying about its value, but it backfires when Sawako asks for a receipt and the club end up getting considerably less money. However, she allows the girls to buy one thing with the money. Noticing that Azusa looks a bit concerned about not having any freshmen to look after, the girls decide to get her a pet turtle, naming it Ton.

The light music club starts their senior year at high school. Yui, Mio, Ritsu, and Tsumugi, along with Nodoka, are all surprised that they have been put into the same homeroom class together. It soon becomes apparent that their new homeroom teacher, none other than Sawako, had arranged it that way so she had fewer names to remember. With Azusa being in only her junior year of the light music club, the gang become determined to get new members so that she will not be the sole member when they graduate. However, their various attempts to attract new students fail, so they focus instead on their performance for the freshman reception. Azusa becomes depressed that no new members show up afterward, but after talking with Ui and Jun and overhearing Yui’s comments, she decides it is fine with just the five of them for now.

Ritsu’s old middle school friend invites the band to perform at a live house on New Year’s Eve. After viewing the place and distributing tickets to their friends, they soon get to know some of the other performing bands as they set up their routine. The girls become nervous while rehearsing, but the other bands encourage them to keep trying. They then perform to a packed room with great success, while Sawako meets one of her old friends. Afterward, everyone goes to Yui’s house to see the new year in, although only Mio and Ritsu manage to stay up until midnight. Yui wakes everyone up to see the first sunrise of the new year.

The skies are overcast with a chance of rain, and Haruhi instructs Kyon to go pick up a heater. With Kyon gone, Haruhi takes pictures of Mikuru in various costumes for the movie’s DVD cover, Itsuki helps how he can, and Yuki is left alone to read. After Kyon returns, he finds only Yuki in the club room and decides to wait for the others, but falls asleep. When he awakens, he finds Haruhi alone with him, waiting for him to wake up so they can leave. It has already started raining, so Haruhi borrows an umbrella from school for them to use. When returning home, Kyon finds a more playful side to Haruhi and in the end, she pulls a playful tongue-out face.

Hoping to reclaim the computer Haruhi extorted from the Computer Research Society earlier in the year, the Computer Research Society president challenges the SOS Brigade to a computer game they created for the cultural festival entitled The Day of Sagittarius III. Haruhi accepts his challenge, but soon finds out that playing the game is much harder than she thought. Yuki is initially mystified by the computer’s operation but catches on quickly, as she will tend to do. Eventually, she manages to find out that Computer Research Society club members are cheating and is able to block and use it against them, thus winning the game and some laptops for the SOS Brigade club room.

“Live Alive” “Raibu Araibu” (ライブアライブ)

On the day of the school’s cultural festival, the members of the SOS Brigade are involved in different activities. Yuki attempts fortune telling, and Itsuki stars in a tragicomedy. Mikuru, along with Tsuruya, and their class open a yakisoba café as well. Kyon, attempting to enjoy a normal day, later goes to the auditorium, where bands are playing for the audience, and falls asleep. When he awakens, he sees Haruhi and Yuki walking on stage wearing a bunny girl costume and witch cloak and hat respectively, filling in for a female rock band on vocals and guitar. Their performance creates quite an uproar in the audience. It is revealed why the two had to fill in for the two musicians who were unable to perform for their show. Kyon, after understanding that Haruhi is not used to being appreciated by others, is then dragged into the idea that Haruhi wants to start up her own rock band.

“The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00” “Asahina Mikuru no Bōken Episode 00” (朝比奈ミクルの冒険 Episode00)

The SOS Brigade previews their movie of questionable quality. In the movie, Mikuru Asahina stars as a time-travelling waitress from the future who must engage in fights with Yuki Nagato, who is playing as an alien-magician. Mikuru has sworn to protect a young man, played by Itsuki Koizumi, but a love-triangle ensues with both Mikuru and Yuki striving for Itsuki’s affections. Kyon is the narrator of the movie, while Haruhi Suzumiya is the director. The production of this movie can be found in the episodes, “The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya”.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya – Episode 24

“The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Five” “Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki V” (涼宮ハルヒの溜息V)

Deciding Yuki needs a familiar for her role, Haruhi picks up a stray cat and names it Shamisen. However, when Haruhi leaves that day, Shamisen starts talking as a result of Haruhi’s powers. The other club members meet up, where Itsuki suggests a reminder to Haruhi that her movie is a work of fiction, before reality incurs further damage. Later on, both Mikuru and Yuki share their independent views about Haruhi. As Haruhi’s powers continue through filming, Itsuki calls out Kyon to hold back Haruhi’s powers. Kyon accomplishes this by convincing Haruhi to add a disclaimer over the credits saying it is a work of fiction. After the filming, Kyon and Haruhi remain at the club room to do the editing. Kyon falls asleep while editing the movie, but wakes up the next day to find the movie had somehow completed itself while he was sleeping. The episode ends with a flashback to May, where Kyon tells Haruhi the truth about the other club members, but she does not believe him.

“Endless Eight” “Endoresu Eito” (エンドレスエイト)

The loop continues for the 15,532nd time, but as Haruhi leaves on August 30, Kyon beckons the SOS Brigade to finish their summer homework together, thus breaking the endless loop of summer. Irritated, Haruhi berates him, but decides to come anyway even though she has already finished her homework. Kyon wakes up on September 1 to embrace a new school term.

“The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Four” “Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki IV” (涼宮ハルヒの溜息IV)

As the SOS Brigade continues filming, Haruhi tries to give Mikuru another contact lens, ergo another superpower. Yuki quickly takes action and injects her with more nanomachines before any serious damage could be done. After Mikuru is doused in a lake, Tsuruya offers her place as a movie scene. When Kyon notices Mikuru drugged up for a kiss scene with Itsuki, he becomes infuriated about Haruhi’s abuse of Mikuru and almost hits her, forcing Itsuki to stop him. As a result, Haruhi becomes depressed, since she always thought Kyon would support her but Kyon would always complain and protest. After hearing Taniguchi’s rude comments, Kyon gets again miffed and realized that he got so mad about his rude comments but it was no different from what he said and later talks to Haruhi and reinvigorates her. However, Haruhi becomes a little too encouraged as her powers bloom cherry blossoms out of season.

“The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Three” “Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki III” (涼宮ハルヒの溜息III)

The SOS Brigade continue filming, though Haruhi is displeased with the battle sequence. Haruhi conjures the idea Mikuru shooting laser beams from her blue contact lens on her left eye. With Haruhi’s powers, the beam turns out to be real and fires dangerous invisible beams. Yuki protects Kyon from the laser shots before tackling Mikuru and removing the contact lens. While Haruhi changes Mikuru into a bunny girl outfit, the others discuss the situation. After filming for the remainder of the day, Haruhi leaves insisting on a tight filming schedule until the festival, including working on a Sunday. Yuki uses bite-injected nanomachines to counter Haruhi’s effects on Mikuru. The next day, Mikuru shows some unwillingness to resume prompting Haruhi to pick her up. Also, Haruhi adds Tsuruya, Taniguchi, and Kunikida to be extras in the film.

“The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Two” “Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki II” (涼宮ハルヒの溜息II)

Preparation for the SOS Brigade’s short film continues, with character roles revealed. It seems that they take on the roles of their true nature, unbeknownst to Haruhi. On the first day of filming, the club films the two commercials to advertise their sponsors, as shown in the episode “The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00”. They then film several scenes in a park, and Kyon points out that Haruhi did not actually write a script.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya – Episode 20

Upon the start of a new term, North High School is preparing for the annual school cultural festival. Displeased with the class decision on a questionnaire, Haruhi tells Kyon that the SOS Brigade will do something more interesting. Influenced by a bad film the previous night, Haruhi commits the club for a short independent film with Mikuru and Itsuki as the protagonists, Yuki as the villain, and Kyon doing ‘menial tasks’ including the filming. Kyon and Mikuru accompany Haruhi as she negotiates shop owners for materials, such as an expensive camcorder and an airsoft gun for free upon willingness to sponsor the film.

The loop continues for the 15,527th time. The scene where Kyon answers Haruhi’s call loops twice, the scene in which Kyon notices Yuki at the pool loops twice, and the scene where Haruhi says she left the last day of summer open just in case also loops twice. Kyon once again goes to bed without finishing his summer homework.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya – Episode 17

The previous time loop continues for the 15,524th time. Kyon rides his bike and approaches Yuki. In that moment, he speculates his reason for doing so and simply lets her leave without conversation. Kyon goes to bed without finishing his summer homework once again.
