This episode replays the event where Sora asks Haru to take her measurements so she can have a uniform made. The next day Nao comes over to bring Haruka some mosquito repellent, since Sora is scared of mosquitoes, and then leaves almost immediately. The next day Ryouhei invites Haruka to the school rooftop to take a peek at the girls cleaning the pool. Haruka warns Ryouhei, though, not to peek at Nao, and leaves. Much later Ryouhei tells Nao that Haruka, “the prince she has been waiting for,” has a crush on her; but she thinks he does not like her. The truth is that something happened between the two many summers ago: Nao, trying to escape the noise of her arguing parents, ran to Haruka’s house. At that time Haruka was sleeping at their veranda, and was surprised to see Nao on top of him with her clothes undone. Until now Nao feels guilty for what she did. However, Ryouhei, even Akira and Kazuha, is into the act of bringing Haruka and Nao together. They did so by making the two meet at school pool on a Sunday. When they were changing after the swimming lesson, Haruka rushes into the girls’ locker room when Nao was scared by a black cat inside a box. The school supervisor hears their chatter, but the two were able to hide inside a box before he catches them. Thinking it was just the cat, he leaves. There, Nao gets to know that Haruka does not hate her, only that he was just surprised at the events of that summer day, dispelling her assumptions. Meanwhile, Sora shows her hatred of Nao, whom she thinks is the reason why Haruka has been preoccupied the past couple of days, at home on her laptop.

Having read Kuroneko’s fanfiction online, Kirino decides to write some of her own. The two of them get into a fight concerning their literature tastes. After Kirino posts her novel online, she receives a tentative publishing offer. In order to get inspiration for her next novel, Kirino drags Kyosuke around the city on Christmas Eve. She manages to get Kyosuke to buy her some earrings, claiming that they were for emotional support. When Kyosuke claims that Kirino is doing this simply for her own self-gratification, she pours a bucket of cold water over her head to prove otherwise. They stop by a hotel so Kirino can shower and change her clothes. Out on the streets again, Kyosuke feels closer to Kirino as he notices her warm smile while wearing the earrings that he bought her.

Haruka enters Akira’s room and stops her from burning something, which is her mother’s missing journal, where it is written that Kazuha and Akira has a chance of mistaken identity. With the journal, he suggests to Yahiro and Kazuha a DNA test to prove things once and for all. Yahiro refuses, but, despite disapproval from her mother, Kazuha agrees. Haruka informs Akira at the shrine the next day that the DNA results will be out in five days, but Akira disappears on the fifth day. Haruka finds her at the train station, where they talk until the evening. When the DNA results arrive that night, Kazuha and Sora delivers it to Akira, who is still at the station, but she buckled, too scared to read it. It is then that Kazuha’s mother appears, and tells everything at their home, where Akira is shown the lost pendant, returned to her by someone who found it at the mountains, basing on the name engraved on its back. She reveals that she and Akira’s mother had shared the same hospital room, and, one day Akira pulled the pendant off of her neck as Mrs. Migiwa held her in her arms. After hearing that Akira’s mother had died, she gave the pendant to her to make her feel, at least, the presence of a mother. Akira then reads the DNA results, and it read negative, which means Akira is born of a different mother. There, Kazuha’s mother let her keep the pendant, and apologizes to Akira. She later confesses her love for Haruka and vice-versa.

At school, Manami invites Kyosuke over to her house to try out some sweets made by her family’s shop for a Halloween event. One of Kyosuke’s friends points out that he and Manami are pretty close, but Kyosuke denies there is anything romantic; however, he admits he would not allow any guy to go out with her. Later at Manami’s house, Kyosuke tries out the sweets made by Manami and ends up helping her family prepare for the event; he agrees to spend the night. Manami’s grandpa tricks them into sharing the same room that night, which prompts them to talk. Kyosuke reveals to Manami that if he was confessed to, he would reject the confession in order to maintain his peaceful lifestyle. Meanwhile, back at the Kosaka house, Kirino is noticeably frustrated that Kyosuke is staying over at Manami’s house.

The Introduction to this episode replays the event where Haruka was standing near the girls locker room, overhearing Akira’s and Kazuha’s conversation, but this time, instead of walking away mislead, Akira comes out and takes the phone from Haruka. This allows for the story to have an alternative ending. Haruka notices that Akira has been acting strange lately, and decides to talk to her alone at school the next morning. He sees the sad look on Akira’s face and becomes worried, and wants to help Akira find her mother’s pendant (after remembering her losing it as a child). They go in search for the pendant by a tree they would play by as kids, only to Haruka’s horror that the tree had been removed by a landslide. He attempts at digging around for it, but without any luck. The two go to Akira’s residence to take a bath, and have a romantic moment together. From there, Haruka goes to the festival, and, after seeing Akira cry while dancing the sacred dance, rushes off to see what had happened.

When Ayase suspects Kirino is hiding something, she puts pressure on her and eventually discovers her hobby, telling her they can no longer be friends. Noticing Kirino falling into despair, Kyosuke resumes his life counseling duties and tries talking to Ayase, who says she wants to make up with her, but cannot accept her hobby having seen reports of crimes relating to eroge. Kyosuke asks for advice from his father, who helps him by giving the full story on those reports. Although Ayase still refuses to make up with Kirino after Kyosuke reveals the truth behind the news story, Kirino gains the courage to stand up to her and expresses her love for both her friends and eroge. When Ayase still has doubts about her hobby, Kyosuke puts on a bold act, which causes Ayase to hate him. However, Ayase realizes that her fight with Kirino is pointless in comparison and apologizes to Kirino for her harsh words. Shortly after, Kyosuke receives a text from Ayase thanking him for helping her and Kirino make up, though warns him not to do anything indecent to Kirino.

On their way home from school, Haruka and Kazuha are interrupted by a frantic Yahiro, who is concerned over the non-appearance of the always-responsible Akira as usual. They discover Akira at her home, collapsed due to exhaustion, and Kazuha proceeds to blame herself and her infatuation with Haruka for not noticing Akira’s condition. Akira recovers a few days later, but confronts Kazuha about her abandonment of Haruka and the inappropriate sense of guilt she feels regarding their father’s actions. Realizing the truth of Akira’s words, Kazuha withdraws into a state of depression while struggling to determine what to do. The day of the festival arrives, and Kazuha works up the courage to appear, where she is reunited with Haruka. Haruka informs Kazuha that her father had been supporting Akira financially in secret all this time and, when Kazuha witnesses her father praising Akira, she realizes that she had misjudged him. Thus, she was able to move past her codependency towards Akira and pursue a whole-hearted romantic relationship with Haruka.

俺の妹が夏コミとか行くわけがない “Ore no Imōto ga Natsu Komi Toka Iku Wake ga Nai” “My Little Sister Can’t Be Going to Summerket”

When Kirino forces Kyosuke to play a beat-em-up eroge, he asks Saori for some playing advice. While Kirino has her school friends over, she receives a package from Saori, unaware it is a collection of dōjinshi, forcing Kyosuke to stop her from opening it in front of her regular friends, but his attempts to protect it from her land them in an even more awkward situation. Afterwards, one of Kirino’s friends, Ayase Aragaki, apologizes to Kyosuke on Kirino’s behalf and exchanges phone numbers with him. As way of apology for the incident, Kirino forces Kyosuke to take her to Summer Comiket, along with Saori and Kuroneko. When a special data disc Kirino wants is sold out, Kuroneko wins it for her in a beat-em-up contest. Just as they leave the Comiket, they are spotted by Ayase.

When Kazuha realizes that Haruka has overheard their conversation, she chases him down to clear up any misunderstanding. She reveals that Akira is, in fact, her illegitimate older sister, born of a different mother. Due to her family’s societal standing, Kazuha’s father is not able to acknowledge Akira as his daughter, causing Kazuha to be resentful of her father and to feel a burden of guilt and responsibility towards the always-hard-working Akira. To help lift Kazuha’s spirits, Haruka invites her out on a date, and they subsequently realize and admit their rapidly-progressing feelings towards each other. Meanwhile, Akira continues to try her best on her own, but collapses, apparently due to exhaustion.

Kirino hangs out with Saori and Kuroneko again and is surprised to find that they do not have to worry about hiding their hobbies. Later that day, Kirino’s father learns of her hobby and becomes angry at her. Kirino becomes upset that her hobby has been called “worthless” and runs off, prompting Kyosuke to catch up with her. After seeing Kirino show no desire to give up a part of her life, Kyosuke stands up to his father for her. Though he allows Kirino to keep her hobby, he still shows concern for the eroge Kirino had been seen with, so Kyosuke claims they are his, earning him a punch in the face. Kirino later gives her thanks to Kyosuke, who is taken aback by her unexpected cuteness.

Sora asks Haru to take her measurements so she can have a uniform made, and finally starts attending school with Haruka, though she is disappointed to find that she and Haruka are in different classes. While cleaning the swimming pool as part of a mixed gym, Akira accidentally soaks Kazuha who forgot her swimsuit, and so Akira takes her to dry off. Haruka finds Kazuha’s phone and goes to return it, only to overhear a sensual-sounding conversation in which Kazuha addresses Akira as “Onee-chan” (big sister).

Noticing Kirino has no one to share her hobbies with, Kyosuke asks for advice from his friend, Manami Tamura, who suggests that she make some otaku friends. Kirino joins an online community and is invited to an otaku tea party at a maid café in Akihabara, but has trouble talking to any of the other members. However, she is later asked to join members Saori Vageena and Kuroneko, the latter of which gets into a heated debate with her about their favorite anime. After a day of shopping around Akihabara, they decide to keep sharing messages while Kyosuke finishes the game Kirino asked him to complete.

After the sudden death of their parents, Haruka and his twin sister Sora move to the house formerly inhabited by their late grandfather, in a small village they often visited as children. There, Haruka encounters several of the residents, some of whom are old friends, but Sora stays at home, refusing to go to school even as Haruka starts attending. Realizing that Haruka is growing more and more distant and slipping from her grasp, Sora goes to Haruka’s room at night and appeals to Haruka as she removes her clothes…

After bumping into his little sister, Kirino, in the hall, Kyosuke Kosaka finds a magical girl anime DVD which contains a little-sister themed eroge (an adult game) inside. Kyosuke soon learns the game belongs to Kirino and confronts her about it, though says she would not be weird for having such a hobby and would offer his advice any time. Later that night, Kirino brings Kyosuke into her room, where she reveals her secret stash of erotic games and anime, explaining that she loves little sister types, though is unable to explain how she got into it. Having not had anyone to share her hobby with, Kirino gets Kyosuke, who promises to keep her obsession a secret from their parents, to play through one of her eroge for an unbiased opinion.

Graduation

Three days after the shadows incident, only Otonashi, Yuri, Kanade, Hinata and Naoi remain, the others having already passed on. Per Kanade’s idea, they hold a graduation ceremony, where they thank each other for their support. After the ceremony ends, Naoi takes his leave. Yuri makes her peace with Kanade before she leaves, followed shortly by Hinata. With Otonashi and Kanade left, Otonashi suggests that they could stay together to help others who come into the afterlife world, revealing in the process that he is in love with her. Kanade is hesitant to respond, as her one regret was never saying thanks to Otonashi, whose heart kept her alive in the real world due to the donor card he left behind when he died. Kanade thanks him and disappears in his arms, as Otonashi cries over the disappearance of his newfound love. Otonashi passes on shortly after. In an epilogue, in the world of the living, a girl resembling Kanade is humming “My Song” when a boy resembling Otonashi happens to pass by and recognizes the melody. When the girl turns to walk away, the boy chases after her to tap on her shoulder. In the BD/DVD-exclusive short “Another Epilogue”, Otonashi remains in the school and becomes the new student council president, helping out other students to pass on.

Knockin` on Heaven`s Door

As the girls of Girls Dead Monster and many other SSS members decide to pass on, Otonashi and the others continue to fight off the other shadows, which are increasing in number. Meanwhile, Yuri explores the Guild and comes up against many shadows. She gets ensnared by one and becomes an NPC, but she manages to fight it and returns thanks to Otonashi, Kanade, Hinata and Naoi, who have come to aid her. While they fend off the shadows, Yuri comes across a computer room where all the stolen computers are, and she meets a strange boy who talks about the programmer of the Angel Player software, which manipulates the world. The boy tempts her with the prospect of being God of the world herself, but Yuri declines for the sake of her friends and destroys all the computers. As she rests from destroying them all, she has a vision of being forgiven by her siblings before waking up in the infirmary where Otonashi, Kanade, Hinata and Naoi are waiting.

Change the World

Hinata and Naoi argue about who should help Otonashi when a shadow monster suddenly attacks Naoi, but Otonashi and Hinata are able to destroy it in time. Yuri calls Kanade to a meeting to figure out if she is involved with the shadows, but the meeting is cut short when a group of shadows attack Noda, TK and Shiina. Yuri and the others jump in and everyone is safe, but Yuri notices during the battle that one of the NPCs transformed into a shadow. Fujimaki appears to relay that Takamatsu got devoured by one of the shadows as ?yama helplessly looked on as Takamatsu was absorbed into the ground. Takamatsu later reappears, but is now an NPC whose soul has been eaten. Yuri calls an emergency meeting with all of the other SSS members, Yuri reveals she knew about Otonashi’s plan of helping members pass on, and she tells everyone to think about passing on, lest they be eaten by the shadows. Yuri later reveals that Kanade is a human to Otonashi, Hinata and Naoi before going off by herself to discover the source of the shadows. Yuri deduces that someone must be turning NPCs into shadows and she heads to the computer room in the library, as it is the only viable place to do such an operation. She finds a man programming a computer who tells her someone keeps stealing computers and he was programming a new one. After the man leaves, Yuri searches for the method the thief used to take the computers and discovers a hidden passage that leads back into the Guild.

Goodbye Days

Otonashi tells Kanade that the first person they should try to get to pass on is Yui because he believes her to have little left to fulfill, only to discover she has many things left she wants to do. This is because Yui was paralyzed in life from the neck down at a young age due to being hit by a car, leaving her unable to have a happy life. Otonashi manages to fulfill her wish of performing a German suplex after some practice, and another wish of scoring a goal single-handedly against five opponents (the so-called Goal of the Century"), though with some extra help from Kanade. Otonashi next tries to fulfill her wish of hitting a home run, but is unable to accomplish this after several days of trying. Yui’s last wish is to get married, which prompts Hinata who overheard the conversation to say he will marry her. Despite Yui giving excuses about her being handicapped in life, Hinata promises that they would have been happy together had they met before they died. With her last wish fulfilled, Yui passes on. Hinata agrees to help Otonashi in allowing their friends to finally be happy and pass on. In the school hallway, ?yama is attacked by a mysterious creature and Noda is able to fend it off. Yuri hears the report from Yusa who calls it a “shadow”.

In Your Memory

Otonashi stays by Kanade’s side while she is unconscious after absorbing the many ruthless Angels. The SSS decide to rewrite some of her programs as a temporary measure and wait to see what happens after she wakes up. Otonashi remembers everything about how he died. After the train accident, he and a handful of others were trapped in a tunnel with short supplies of food and water. Otonashi helped the injured with the assistance of a man named Igarashi. After a week trapped in the tunnel, Otonashi, feeling his life slipping away, registered as an organ donor on his ID card, which prompted the others to do the same. Otonashi died shortly after, moments before rescue workers managed to finally break through into the tunnel. After Kanade wakes up, she remarks that it is a miracle that her original self managed to overcome the other ruthless Angel personalities. Otonashi comes to realize Kanade’s sole reason for existence is to help people move on by fulfilling any regret they had in life by giving them a chance to experience a normal youth. Otonashi decides to cooperate with Kanade so everyone can move on, but first he must learn more about their pasts. To this end, he requests that Kanade must fight once again against the SSS. Meanwhile, Angel is reinstated as the student council president, while Naoi returns to being the vice president. The rest of the SSS believe Kanade lost her memories of her time with them and has returned to how she was before. This, however, is the secret pact made between Otonashi and Kanade.
