“Trash Day — Clock Tower — Birds Flying Over the Walls” “Gomi no hi — Tokeitō — Kabe o koeru tori” (ゴミの日 — 時計塔 — 壁を越える鳥)

Exploring her job options, Rakka spends a day with Kana. This begins early in the morning with taking out the trash and fighting off crows that plague the yard. Rakka suggests setting aside any leftover food the crows might like, but Kana replies that birds are the only creatures that can fly back and forth over the walls of the city, and that if they were to become too comfortable inside, they might never be free again. She then shows Rakka her personal project, a broken-down clock tower on the Old Home campus, and they hurry off to Kana’s work place, a much larger clock tower and shop in the center of Glie. Kana’s employer is a gruff old man who treats her very strictly but secretly appreciates her and worries that Rakka’s presence means Kana will leave soon. After Kana and Rakka clean up a mess left by repair workers, they go out on a balcony which turns out to be the highest point in town, other than the walls. They then return home, and Kana’s boss gives her a set of tools with which to repair the Old Home clock tower.

“Temple — The Communicator — Pancakes” “Jiin — Washi — Pankēki” (寺院 — 話師 — パンケーキ)

Rakka goes to visit Reki, who wakes up on the floor after falling from her bed during a nightmare. From the paints and other materials in the room, Rakka learns that Reki is an artist, although she will not share any of her paintings. Hikari takes Rakka to the temple of the Haibane Renmei, where Rakka meets the Communicator and is approved as a new Haibane. He gives her the notebook with which she can make purchases and encourages her to search for a job. Back at Old Home, Rakka finds Reki dealing with her own job, which is to help cook and care for the Young Feathers. To help convince the children to eat their carrots, Rakka volunteers to go visit the bakery where Hikari works and purchase some pancakes. Kuu, the youngest of the older Haibane, accompanies her and shares her belief that, despite their small wings, each Haibane will one day be able to fly. At the bakery, they discover that Hikari had used the halo mold in a cooking experiment, which explains the effect Rakka’s halo has on her hair.

“Town and Wall — Toga — Haibane Renmei” “Machi to kabe — Tōga — Haibane Renmei” (街と壁 — トーガ — 灰羽連盟)

Rakka’s new companions introduce around Old Home, the previously abandoned dormitory in which they now live in. This place also houses numerous children referred to as the Young Feathers. Rakka is then accompanied by the Haibane, except Reki, into the nearby town of Glie, which is mainly populated by ordinary humans. Rakka learns that certain rules have been set down by an organization called the Haibane Renmei. They are required to work and are only allowed to own secondhand items that humans have stopped using. Because they are also forbidden to use money, they must instead write down their earnings and expenses in special notebooks provided by the organization. The town and local countryside are surrounded by an enormous wall through which only the mysterious traders called Toga can come and go. A masked figure called the Communicator is the one person allowed to speak with them, and then only through sign language. Rakka has an eerie feeling as she looks at the Communicator and at the crows near the walls. When the group returns home at night, Reki waits for an exhausted Rakka and watches her until she falls asleep.

“Cocoon — Dream of Falling from the Sky — Old Home” “Mayu — Sora o ochiru yume — Ōrudo Hōmu” (繭 — 空を落ちる夢 — オールドホーム)

A girl dreams that she is gently falling through the sky and that a crow is trying to save her. Later, she wakes up inside a giant cocoon. Upon breaking out, she is tended to by a group of winged and haloed people who introduce themselves as Haibane. They name her Rakka. Like her, none of them can remember anything before being born from cocoons into this world, and all are named after their own dreams. They give Rakka a newly-forged halo, which slides away from her head and must be temporarily strapped on, then leave for the night. Reki stays behind to help Rakka through the ordeal of growing her wings. After they erupt painfully from her back, Rakka sleeps while Reki cleans the blood from her feathers.

ちぃ だけの人 Chii Dake no Hito The Person Only For Chi

Chi has chosen Hideki as her “one and only,” and Freya has taken control from within Chi. At Freya’s request, Hibiya issues the command to shut them down and delete their programming, heedless of Hideki’s protests. Hideki then tells Chi/Freya that he loved her and tells her the meaning of happiness. Freya accepts that Chi has done the thing Freya couldn’t do while alive: to find her “one and only.” Freya subsides and disappears, leaving Hideki and Chi to live happily ever after.

ちぃ 決める Chii Kimeru Chi Decides

Ms. Hibiya secretly leaves Chi the fourth book in the “A City With No People” series. Hideki meets with Shinbo and shares his feelings for Chi. He realizes he loves Chi, and back in Hideki’s apartment, when Chi tells Hideki that she loves him, he also tells her that he loves her. At this point, something triggers in Chi, and she flies out of the apartment window and onto the roof of the building. Finding Hideki and Chi on the roof, Hibiya reveals that she is Chi’s mother. She tells Hideki that Chi is a Chobit, and that Freya, the “familiar voice” other Persocoms had been hearing during Chi’s trances, was Chi’s sister who had died. Zima and Dita, two advanced Persocoms who had been observing from a distance for several episodes, wait nearby intending to stop Chi from launching her hidden program that they fear will destroy all Persocoms.

ちぃ 着てぬぐ Chii Kite Nugu Chi Wears And Takes Off

Hideki takes Chi to work. There, Chi changes into the wrong uniform. Ueda tells her it’s the wrong one, but before she goes to change, Yumi sees her wearing it from outside the shop and runs away crying. As it turns out, Yumi used to work at the store, and that had been her uniform. When Yumi was working for Mr. Ueda, the two had started falling in love, but when Yumi learned about Mr. Ueda’s previous marriage to a Persocom, she concluded that he believed Persocoms to be superior to humans, so she quit her job at his bakery and broke off the relationship.

ちぃ 答える Chii Kotaeru Chi Answers

Hideki and Chi help Shinbo move out of the apartment to live with Ms. Shimizu (who is now married to him). Then they arrive at Minoru’s house, where he is trying to find information on Chobits. Minoru, who has not been sleeping enough, passes out, and Yuzuki (Minoru’s custom-made Persocom) decides to try to hack the Chobits database herself.

ちぃ 求める Chii Motomeru Chi Wants

Chi is still missing, and Hideki is enlisting as much help as he can to find her. A strange e-mail image gets sent to him and Shinbo from the house of the infamous hacker “Dragonfly”. It turns out that this is Chi’s abductor, and he is carrying out research to find out what Chi is.

ちぃ 待つ Chii Matsu Chi Waits

Chi is still in the hands of her abductor as Hideki searches for her. After he talks to Mr. Ueda about Chi missing work, they decide to search for Chi together, and Mr. Ueda talks about his marriage to his last Persocom.

ちぃ いなくなる Chii Inaku Naru Chi Disappears

While Chi is on her way to work, she notices the third part of the book series “A City With No People” on the shelf of a bookstore. While she flips through the pages, she is grabbed from behind and is kidnapped. Hideki comes home from prep school and returns to find Chi missing.

ちぃ 手伝う Chii Tetsudau Chi Helps

Ms. Hibiya is cleaning the apartments, and Hideki and Chi offer to help her. When Hideki goes to clean the electronics room, Sumomo accidentally falls onto some wires and gets electrocuted. Ms Hibiya then reveals that she used to build Persocoms, and she repairs Sumomo.

稔·柚姫 語る Minoru·Yuzuki Kataru Minoru and Yuzuki Chat

Minoru and Yuzuki tried to find what Chi really is and search for clues about the creator of the Chobits picture. Yuzuki reviews with Minoru what they know about Chi, and the only thing they can conclude with the information they have is that Chi is not a normal Persocom. This episode is another recap of the events that have happened so far in the series.

ちぃ まかなう Chii Makanau Chi Provides

Hideki has lost his wallet and cannot buy anything to eat. Chi wants to give him a meal to make him happy, so she uses her work paycheck to buy the food and make it herself. Her attempt results in the smoke alarm going off, and Miss Hibiya teaches her to cook a more edible meal.

ちぃ 何もしない Chii Nanimo Shinai Chi Doesn’t Do Anything

Hideki wakes up with Sumomo in his bag. Then he finds out that Shinbo has run away with Ms. Shimizu and eloped. Bewildered, Hideki goes to Minoru’s house and gets him to contact Shinbo via video call. Shinbo explains that Ms. Shimizu lost her trust in men when her husband bought a Persocom and became so enamoured with it he completely forgot about his wife.

ちぃ もてなす Chii Motenasu Chi Entertains

Ms. Shimizu suddenly shows up at Hideki’s apartment and spends the night. She doesn’t say why, but she asks him if he prefers Persocoms over people. The next day, he finds out that Shinbo hasn’t slept at all. But when Hideki tells him what had happened overnight, Shinbo freaks out. Later, Hideki is walking home when he sees Ms. Shimizu and Shinbo locked in a romantic embrace.

ちぃ 海いく Chii Umi Iku Chi Goes to the Ocean

Hideki, Shinbo, Chi, Ms. Hibiya, Yumi, and Ms. Shimizu (their prep school teacher) decide to go to Minoru’s Beach House over the Spring Break. There, dolphins catch their eye, Chi jumps overboard, and in an attempt to rescue Chi, Hideki nearly drowns himself.

ちい 遊ぶ Chii Asobu Chi Plays

Hideki gets a DVD player and an online game from Minoru. He, Chi, Sumomo and Shinbo play the game together. However, Chi is somehow not with them in the game, and Hideki searches around in-game to find her despite the fact that he has no experience in playing online games. While doing so, he accidentally finds himself confronting an undefeatable boss monster and is eventually rescued by Chi, although afterward Chi claims that she has no memory of the incident.

“Into the Blue” “Intu za Burū” (イントゥ·ザ·ブルー)

Sousuke and Gauron fight each other within the confines of the Tuatha de Danaan hangar. As they struggle, Gauron activates his AS’s self-destruct mechanism to destroy both himself and the Tuatha de Danaan. With Kaname’s help, Sousuke jettisons Gauron’s AS from the submarine just as it explodes. Back at Merida Island, Tessa sends home the remains of two SRT members killed during the takeover.

ちぃ 確かめる Chii Tashikameru Chi Confirms

Hideki is scared of a room in the apartment because of a horror story he heard at Minoru’s house when he was asking about the internet through Minoru’s custom-made Persocom Yuzuki. He becomes paranoid thinking about the story and, believing that his apartment building is haunted, has several self-induced hallucinations. The apartment number in the story is 104, as 4, or shi. “Shi” is the Japanese word for Four (四) and Death (死), and because of this, the number four is unlucky in Japan. According to the story, a woman who was hoping to rendezvous with her lover was killed in that room. Hideki and Chi along with Shinbo, Minoru and Yuzuki decide to investigate. At the end, Hideki and Chi discover that it is all a misunderstanding.
