Working has its ups and downs for Tomoya. He does not want his boss to find out that he has an injured shoulder, in fear that he will lose his new job. He promises Nagisa that he will join her at the Founder’s Festival, yet work gets busy and while his fellow co-workers would have covered for him, he wanted to prove his worth. He is late for his date, and is starting to become too busy to sustain a healthy relationship with Nagisa. He gains respect with his co-workers and settles into his job.

Shortly after his graduation, Tomoya decides to be more independent, and works toward this goal by first taking up a job at Furukawa Bakery. Meanwhile, Nagisa has begun her new school year, although she makes few friends and her attempt to reestablish the theater club ends in failure. Tomoya eventually moves out of Nagisa’s home to a small apartment of his own, while taking up a job as an electrician with Yusuke Yoshino. After his first day of work, Tomoya returns to his home completely exhausted, barely able to stay awake during his dinner with Nagisa.

Tomoya and his friends are nearing graduation, and are discussing what they will be doing after they graduate. Kyou wishes to be a kindergarten teacher, Ryou hopes to go to a nursing school, Kotomi wants to study in America, and Youhei aspires to be a model. Tomoya still has not decided on what to do yet. Nagisa’s sickness returns, making her unable to go to school and take exams. On the day of graduation, Tomoya returns home to Nagisa who wishes to take a walk with him, while holding hands.

勇気ある戦い Yūki Aru Tatakai Valiant Fight

Tomoyo speaks to Yukine and the others about hearing that the police will start to get involved in the fight between the two gangs if it gets any worse. Trying to stave off a major brawl, Yukine goes with Tomoya to try to talk the other gang out of a fight, and the leader settles on a fight between him and Yukine’s brother Kazuto. Youhei reluctantly goes to stand in for Kazuto, but is incapacitated along with everyone else but Tomoya after eating Sanae’s bread, so Tomoya fights the leader of the opposing gang. Yukine impersonates Kazuto to end the fighting, and finally reveals to everyone that did not already know that Kazuto has been dead for some time, and his wish was to end the fighting in the town.

彼女の居場所 Kanojo no Ibasho Her Whereabouts

Tomoya, Nagisa, and Youhei finally find out that Yukine is respected by the two rival gangs in the city since she helps both sides’ members after they get hurt. Her older brother, Kazuto is the leader of one of the gangs, and a young boy named Yu comes to her to find his older sister who apparently is dating a guy in Yukine’s brother’s gang. Youhei tells Yu that he is Yukine’s brother for a time, but the truth is later revealed after Yukine takes Yu, along with Tomoya, Nagisa, and Youhei, to a bar where her brother’s gang hangs out. Yukine’s brother has been in the hospital since he saved a friend and got in a car accident. While heading home, three members of the rival gang think Youhei is Yukine’s brother and try to fight him and Tomoya, but Tomoyo intervenes, stopping them single-handedly.

After getting over Igarashi, Misae starts hanging out with Shima more and starts falling in love with him. One day, Shima realizes after going to his house with two of Misae’s friends that he is in fact not Shima Katsuki, but a cat who was sent by the real Shima Katsuki, who was dying, to grant Misae’s wish. At the autumn festival, Misae confesses she has come to love Shima, but that night he disappears shortly after Misae made her wish for him to always be with her. After Tomoya wakes up, and realizes the cat showed him all this, Tomoya later tells Misae some things Shima did not get a chance to tell her.

Tomoya and Nagisa visit Youhei, and spend some time talking with Misae and Tomoyo who comes over after them. Later, when Tomoya and Nagisa are talking with Misae privately, Tomoya starts falling asleep. It is shown how when Misae was a first-year in high school, she met a strange boy named Shima Katsuki who says he can grant her one wish in return for her cheering him up years before when he was in the hospital. Misae has a boy she likes named Igarashi, but who unknown to her already has a girlfriend. Igarashi asks Shima to tell her this, but he cannot tell her directly and starts crying. Misae sees Igarashi with his girlfriend, and realizes the truth; she runs away, leaving Shima behind.

Youhei has not been coming to class lately, and his friends and Mei are worrying about his situation. Mei, Tomoya, and Nagisa visit the Soccer Club, and try to convince them to let Youhei rejoin. After a grueling task of fetching soccer balls, the club still will not let Youhei back on the team. While the leader of the soccer team makes Mei cry, and picks on her, Youhei storms in and starts beating up the entire soccer club, with the help of Tomoya. After the soccer team members leave, Tomoya and Youhei have another fight about the protection of Mei. Youhei finally admits he was worried about Mei, and the fight is resolved after Mei and Nagisa interject. Tomoya later recounts to himself how he and Youhei first met.

Youhei and Sanae go out on a date, accompanied by Mei, Tomoya and Nagisa. Mei still feels that her brother is hopeless even with a dependable girlfriend, and thus still worries about him. Mei remembers that her brother used to be much nicer and worried about her in the past when Mei would get picked on. In an attempt to provoke a brotherly response out of Youhei, Mei lies about coming to the city to meet a guy she likes, and Tomoya later pretends in front of Youhei that he is that person. Despite being shocked in both instances, Youhei does not say anything to Mei. Since she cannot leave while things are the way they are, Mei decides to stay for the time being.

いつわりの愛をさがして Itsuwari no Ai o Sagashite Search for Fake Love

Mei has become worried about her older brother since he still does not have a plan after high school, and comes to stay at Nagisa’s for the time being. Based on a fleeting comment by Youhei, Tomoya gets the idea to ask a girl to pose as his girlfriend so Mei will stop worrying about him. Youhei goes around with Tomoya and Nagisa asking Ryou, Tomoyo, Kotomi, and Yukine, but no one can help him. Sanae overhears Youhei’s trouble and decides to be his fake girlfriend if it will help push him in the right direction in life. Youhei, however, still believes her to be Nagisa’s older sister. When Mei meets her brother’s “girlfriend”, Sanae is posing as a student from Tomoya’s high school.

Summer vacation is now over and the second semester has started at Tomoya’s school. Nagisa’s father, Akio, asks Tomoya to form a baseball team for a local game against the neighboring shopping district team. Tomoya is able to recruit Kyou and Kotomi from the Drama Club, Youhei and his younger sister Mei, Tomoyo, Misae, and Yusuke. Tomoya’s team manages to get an early lead, but Akio’s leg gets injured by a flying bat, and Nagisa fills in for her father as the pitcher. The other team catches up near the end, and it comes down to the final inning when Tomoya scores an RBI, winning the game.

The story is split up into several chapters.

The Beginning and End of Cherry’s Day (チェリーちゃんの一日のはじまりとおわり Cherī-chan no Ichihibi no Hajimari to Owari?)- Minami’s pet dog, Cherry, is paid a visit by the other characters. While Minami tells her to behave, Cherry shows reluctance to participate. At the end of the day, Minami is concerned that she’s not eating any food.

“To Be Announced” “Mitei” (未定)

Konata and her friends prepare for the school’s cultural festival. Patricia decides to have the girls do a cheerleading session set to the show’s theme song, which hassles the girls between preparations for their class’ cultural displays and preparations for the routine. At first, Patricia has a hard time trying to convince her friends, but then she bribes Konata with a ticket to an Aya Hirano event, where people could shake hands with her. Konata gets her friends to help out, and even though Kagami is initially against it, she becomes the most enthusiastic of the bunch to do the routine. Akira Kogami has been invited to the school as a special guest, but she and Minoru still despise each other. At the end of the day, Konata, Tsukasa, Kagami, Miyuki, Ayano, and Misao reflect on their last cultural festival. The next day, at the opening of the festival, the girls get ready emotionally for the dance, and as the curtain rises, the screen fades to white.

Konata and Yutaka get sick at the same time, but while Yutaka can only rest in bed, Konata plays video games and is mainly using her sickness as an excuse to get out of class. When Minami, Patricia, and Hiyori come to visit Yutaka, Yui reveals that Yutaka has been talking about Minami a lot, but Yui reveals nothing about Yutaka saying anything about either Patricia or Hiyori. After Miyuki hears about gum that will help prevent cavities, she tries a piece, but inadvertently causes an old cavity filling to fall out, resulting her in having to go back to dentist’s office. Later, Minami gets embarrassed when Miyuki recounts how Konata and her friends compliment her, and then further embarrassed when Miyuki’s mother tells of a recent time when she saw Minami at the grocery store.

“The Yonder Here” “Koko ni Aru Kanata” (ここにある彼方)

Konata’s late mother, Kanata, appears as a spirit. As she looks over her family in the room, both Konata and Sōjirō discuss what her life was like, while she was still alive. Although Sōjirō rushed Kanata into love and marriage, Sōjirō was confident that he loved Kanata the most and that she loved him back. A long flashback scene then takes place, where Kanata thinks back on all the happy times she shared with Sōjirō, and concludes that she did love him deeply as well (although she is disturbed about him exposing Konata to eroge). As Konata and Sōjirō prepare to take a picture, Kanata joins in with them, but appears as a shadow in the actual picture. Konata and Sōjirō review the picture and are highly shocked and disturbed at the shadow, and fear that they are cursed.

The third-years go on a trip to Kyoto. Tsukasa feeds deer, however, she eventually gets trampled by them. Kagami receives a letter from a boy asking her to come out at night; she thinks it is a love letter, thus thinks about it all day, not even saying stuff against Konata’s childish jokes. However, it turns out that the boy called Kagami in order to get a doll that he was too embarrassed to buy. The next day, Konata leads the girls on a side trip to the offices of Kyoto Animation.

“Ways to Spend Summer” “Natsu no Sugoshikata” (夏の過ごし方)

Kagami and Konata talk about collectible figures, the negative portrayal of Akihabara in the media and the relationships between otaku. Konata is reluctant to do any homework and is caught playing games and reading manga, instead of working several times by Yui. Konata, Miyuki, Tsukasa and Kagami get together to study during the summer and decide to go to a fireworks festival near Miyuki’s house. Yutaka, Minami, Hiyori and Patricia decide to go to the same festival and discover that Minami and Miyuki live across the street from each other.

Konata and her father have a discussion on how well the Gundam franchise has done, and how the series is still very popular, despite its age. Konata’s father recounts when he watched them when some of the older series first came out. At school, Nanako gets depressed, after seeing her students go to Miyuki for help, instead of herself. After finding out that Hiyori draws dōjinshi, Yutaka asks her what kind, but Hiyori keeps it vague, finding it hard to tell her the truth. While Yutaka, Minami, and Hiyori are out together, Hiyori spots two people cosplaying as Roy Mustang and Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, though only Hiyori notices this as she spans photos on her cell phone.

Konata has a conversation with Miyuki and finds out her eyesight is about 20/200, meaning she has very bad eyes. Miyuki reveals a myriad of things that can improve eyesight, but she has never tried any of them. Kagami continues to try and make Konata read light novels, which greatly annoys her. Later, Kagami gets on Konata’s case about how she never uses her cell phone, and is only wasting money on the money access fee. Hiyori invites Yutaka, Minami, and Patricia to her house, and while Hiyori goes to get drinks, Patricia finds Hiyori’s sketchbook, greatly embarrassing her, especially when she gets to the recent sketches of Minami and Yutaka together in a yuri pairing.

It is Konata’s birthday and she is happy to be a legal adult, because she can play adult-only games legally now. Later, Konata’s family decides to have a surprise party for her, but their plans end up failing, due to Konata’s co-workers also celebrating her birthday. Kagami forgets to buy groceries for dinner which angers her older sister, Matsuri. Kagami walks off in a huff to go to the store and Tsukasa comes to her aid with a shopping list. Upon returning home, they find their older sisters worried about them and Kagami cheers up when her sister shows appreciation for gathering the ingredients.
