Everyone finds Jessica’s body in her locked room, while Kanon’s is nowhere to be found, having been erased by Beatrice. After the notion of Kanon killing Jessica is deterred since he gave Jessica his master key, the other servants are marked as the most likely suspects. Battler, meanwhile, finds himself unable to think of any way the crime could have been carried out while knowing the servants are innocent. Rosa sends the servants off, hoping to use them as bait to draw out the culprit. In the process, the servants stumble across Kanon, severely wounded but apparently still alive, who tells them that Rosa was the one who attacked him. However, it is soon discovered that this Kanon is a duplicate created by Beatrice. The fake Kanon attacks the servants, killing Nanjo and Kumasawa before being destroyed by the other servants.

Hitagi says she believes that Koyomi was hit by a car. He says he stumbled, which she seems to accept. Koyomi goes to Suruga’s house, and finds that her room is filled with red books. She apologizes for beating him up the previous night.

Krauss, Eva, Rudolf, and their spouses go missing, while the remaining guests find the chapel door locked. Rosa finds the chapel key inside the envelope Beatrice gave Maria, and everyone enters to find the missing people murdered inside, along with some of Kinzo’s hidden gold. After separating from the others, Jessica and Kanon are ambushed by Beatrice, who summons her legion of goat servants against them. Kanon fights off the goats until Beatrice summons two Stakes of Purgatory, Asmodeus and Satan, who kill Jessica and Kanon. In Purgatory, Battler and Beatrice suspend their game to determine how the first six people could have been murdered inside a locked room. Battler begins forming several theories, but Beatrice counters most of them, using red text to speak the truth. However, Battler manages to catch Beatrice off guard by theorizing that the culprit could have taken the key from the envelope, locked the dead bodies in the room, and put the key back where it was. Beatrice congratulates Battler, but remains confident he will submit.

Battler and Beatrice begin their debate of logic vs. magic from Purgatory when the Ushiromiya family members gather for their annual conference. This time, however, Beatrice appears in the real world as an important yet anonymous guest. During that day, Maria is left outside by her mother Rosa as punishment for constantly talking about Beatrice. When Rosa returns to save Maria from the coming storm, Beatrice appears before them and hands envelopes to both of them. Meanwhile, Shannon discovers Beatrice’s devious intentions and decides to resist her. Later, when George proposes to her and asks her to give him her answer by the next day, she accepts immediately. During dinner, the siblings discover their guest to be Beatrice and eventually come to acknowledge her as a witch.

Episode II-I Middle Game

After one of the family meetings in 1984, Shannon admits to Jessica that she has a crush on George. However, Eva mentions that George will be taking part in an arranged marriage to keep Shannon away from him. Devastated, Shannon prays for help from Beatrice, who appears and makes a deal with her: in return for smashing a mirror in the island’s shrine that limits her power, Beatrice will guarantee George’s love. Shannon at first refuses, but in 1985, succumbs to temptation and smashes the mirror. In 1986, Jessica confides to Shannon that she has a crush on Kanon. Jessica manages to convince Kanon to come to her school festival, where Kanon is perplexed at seeing a different side of Jessica in public. However, he refuses to get into any relationship with Jessica, stating that people and furniture are never meant to be together. He then confronts Beatrice and accuses her of toying with people’s emotions. Beatrice merely laughs and says that no matter what happens, her power will return and the path to the Golden Land will be opened.

While waiting for Hitagi to arrive, Koyomi begins to find out more about Hachikuji’s life. She is the only child of a couple that had undergone a bitter divorce.

Episode I-V Fool`s Mate

Upon being pressed about the murders, Maria tells them that Beatrice is the culprit, though Battler refuses to accept this explanation. As they argue, Natsuhi bars everyone inside the room and demands Beatrice show herself. By the time everyone breaks out of the room, they see Natsuhi as she drops dead, apparently having committed suicide. Golden butterflies soon fill the room, and the remaining survivors are killed. Afterward, everyone is brought to Purgatory, revived and joking about how they should have solved the epitaph rather than determine who was committing the murders. However, everyone except Battler is convinced that the culprit is a witch. When Battler insists that everything that happened could have been carried out by human means, he is confronted by Beatrice herself, who challenges Battler to prove that the murders were not caused by magic. Later, Beatrice discusses the events she has set into motion with a rival witch, Bernkastel, who plans to lend her own powers to assist Battler.

After talking with Hachikuji, Koyomi discovers that the young girl is trying to get to her mother’s house. However, as he, Hachikuji, and Hitagi try to make their way to the address, they keep getting inexplicably lost.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni – Episode 4

Episode I-IV Blunder Everybody tries to determine how Eva and Hideyoshi could have been killed when an odd smell begins to fill the mansion. Kanon goes to investigate the boiler room along with Kumasawa, but is mortally wounded in the process. The rest of the family and staff arrive and discover the dying Kanon, as well as Kinzo’s partially incinerated body. They decide to retreat to Kinzo’s study, which should be the safest room in the house. After they enter, however, a letter from Beatrice mysteriously appears. Since Genji, Nanjo, Kumasawa, or Maria are the only possible suspects for planting the letter, Natsuhi forces them to leave the study. Later that night, the phone rings with Maria singing on the other end. Natsuhi, Battler, George, and Jessica rush downstairs to find Genji, Nanjo, and Kumasawa murdered and Maria standing in the corner, still singing.

Koyomi Araragi sits in the centre of a vast playground, reminiscing about his mother, and his mountain bike. He sees a young, lost girl, Mayoi Hachikuji, whom he does not know, who later leaves.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni – Episode 3

Episode I-III Dubious Move While attempting to figure out what had happened, the remaining guests discover that their radio is not working, effectively leaving them stranded on the island with the culprit until the typhoon passes. They also quickly discover that Kinzo has gone missing as well. Battler and the rest of the family come up with the theory that one of the eighteen people on the island is posing as Beatrice in an attempt to claim Kinzo’s inheritance. The three primary suspects are the servants, who have access to the entire mansion; Natsuhi, who was the last person seen with Kinzo; and Eva, who has the most to gain from the murders. However, after a heated argument between Natsuhi and Eva, they are unable to come to a definitive answer and return to their rooms. Later, Eva and Hideyoshi are found to have been murdered in their locked room.

Episode I-II First Move

During dinner, no one admits to giving Maria her umbrella, leaving them to wonder if there is a nineteenth resident in addition to the original eighteen guests. After everyone finishes eating, Maria reads a letter she claims to have received from Beatrice earlier, reading that Beatrice will take everything from the Ushiromiya family if no one can solve the witch’s cryptic epitaph, much to the guests’ concern. Later, George proposes to Shannon, and asks her to wordlessly give her reply the next day by wearing the ring on a finger of her choosing. The following morning, Krauss, Rudolf, Rosa, Kyrie, Shannon, and Gohda have gone missing, and the phone lines are out. Natsuhi is informed of a strange symbol drawn on the outdoor tool shed. While the others investigate the matter, Battler, Jessica, and George follow to discover the missing people brutally murdered inside, with Shannon wearing George’s ring on her left ring finger.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni – Episode 1

Episode I-I Opening

The Ushiromiya family gathers on Rokkenjima, a small island off the coast of Japan, for their annual family conference to discuss how the inheritance of the ailing family head, Kinzo, will be distributed among his children and their spouses. Battler, who has not attended the conference in six years, notices a new painting in the foyer of the mansion. He is told that it is a portrait of the “Golden Witch” Beatrice, who had supposedly given Kinzo all his wealth, and who Kinzo desires to see again. Battler, however, does not believe in witches or magic, and doubts she exists. A typhoon approaches the island, and Maria is left outside by her mother Rosa while searching for a wilted rose George had marked for her in the garden. When it begins to rain, Battler, Jessica, George, Kanon, and Rosa go outside to find Maria with an umbrella she did not have before, which Maria says Beatrice gave her.

“Mission” “Shimei” (使命)

In a dreamlike inner monologue sequence, Shogun explains that he is suffering from an illness that caused his body to age rapidly after ten years, nearing his death. When Takumi queries what will happen once Shogun dies, to which the latter responds that the former will continue to exist after being real-booted. Even if Takumi dies instead, Shogun will have his life span extended, albeit for only a few days or weeks. Along the way to the Noah II planetarium, Takumi is attacked by several real-booted Seira dolls created by Noah II, with the objective of stopping him. Elsewhere, Shogun, tells Nanami, Ayase, and Yua to catch up and assist Takumi in destroying Noah II. The three of them meet up with Sena and Kozue at the underground subway station and they all go together to help Takumi. Inside the old planetarium, Takumi discovers Rimi being held up on Norose’s Di-Sword. Rimi is surprised by his arrival, and Takumi responds by declaring his love for her and that he has come to save her. Norose explains his philosophy then removes Rimi from his sword to fight Takumi. Noah II activates its defense mechanism to protect itself. Taku is then overwhelmed by a series of delusions that causes him to stop moving in reality. Rimi snaps him out of the delusions and he continues to fight Norose in a losing battle. Nanami, Yua, Ayase, Sena, and Kozue arrive at a spot below the building where they decide to assist Takumi by sending him their powers via Ayase’s Cocytus delusion using the water from the city’s underground river. With the help of Takumi’s final power and encouragement from all six girls, Taku confirms his existence and defeats another delusion. Taku becomes impervious to physical attacks by Norose. Ayase’s Cocytus arrives and freezes Norose in place while Taku receives power from the girls, including the last from Rimi. He then creates a special attack with his Di-Sword and throws it at Norose as the target with Noah II behind him. The scene returns to the very first scene of the story, where under a rainy, overcast sky, Taku lies among the ruins of Shibuya with Rimi kneeling beside him, kissing him before she goes to plunge her Di-Sword into his chest. However, she is unable to bring herself to kill him because of her strong feelings for him. Shogun tells Takumi to live on in his place before he passes away. Takumi, inheriting memories of Shogun, consoles Rimi with the exact words with which the real Takumi used to comfort her. Holding hands, Takumi and Rimi then return the sky to its original color, and with the appearance of Nanami, Yua, Ayase, Sena, and Kozue, the city is restored to its original form.

Shogun explains to Taku that he intended to stop Nozomi from abusing his “Ir2” equation using Noah II and taking over humanity, but since his aged body is incapable of doing so, he had no choice but to create Takumi from a delusion to do it in his stead. He goes on to inform Takumi that Rimi was captured in the process of rescuing Nanami. In a flashback, it is shown that Rimi and Shogun had met in the past in the hospital and had become close friends. Takumi, remembering all that Rimi had done for him, realizes his true feelings for her, which allows him to obtain his Di-Sword. Even though Shogun asks him to destroy Noah II for humanity, Takumi decides to destroy it in order to save Rimi. Shogun directs Takumi to find and destroy the devices carried by Porters that are causing the chaos in the pedestrian scramble. Hazuki, caught to be the last Porter, is exposed to be the real New Generation perpetrator after Takumi reads her memories and projects it to the screens on the buildings around them. Being a member of the Church of Natural Divine Light, stabs herself with a cross-shaped stake. Shortly after, another strange earthquake happens, one that is much stronger than the previous, resulting in numerous deaths and casualties and having destroy much of the city. Ayase and Yua roam the ruined streets looking for the others, as they encounter Nanami, who mentions Rimi being taken as hostage. The street caves in and the three fall underground. Takumi regains consciousness and takes Shogun with him while looking for the other girls. After hearing Ayase sing, Takumi uses his Di-Sword to rescue them from the collapsed pit. Nanami remembers her true brother after Takumi tells her of his delusional existence. Taku goes alone while the three girls cover his advance from giant insect created by Noah II. Meanwhile, Sena and Kozue, while walking in a subway tunnel encounter a homeless man Hatano, who is the father whom Sena wanted take revenge on. Before she could do so, Suwa intervenes and attempts to shoot her, but Hatano jumps in and takes the bullet, preventing his daughter from being wounded. Using his Porter device, Suwa proceeds to subdue Sena and Kozue with delusions, however Takumi timely arrives and quickly negates these delusions, to the extent of making Kozue to speak. Suwa attempts to kill Taku with stakes but is instead killed when Taku manages to switch their places using a manipulative delusion. Taku continues onward to save Rimi and destroy Noah II.

Takumi is told by Rimi that his memories are actually fabricated and that he is actually a delusional existence created by Shogun, the real Takumi Nishijō. He is shocked by all of the revelations and begins to think Rimi had betrayed him. She apologizes to Takumi for hiding everything from him, then embraces him. Rimi tells him she has to go to rescue Nanami from her kidnappers and leaves, telling Takumi to wait for her in his house. She made him promise to not have anymore delusions, since it shortens the life of Shogun. Back in Momose’s office, Ban and Momose discuss the connections between the Meiwa Political Party and the Church of Natural Divine Light within the Nozomi Technology Group affection the biorhythms of the pedestrian scramble. Ban receives a call from Suwa who is apparently in trouble and is being held at the hospital. He tells Yua and Momose to hide in the meantime and then leaves to find Suwa. Distraught after having his existence denied, Takumi calls Daisuke to affirm his existence, but hangs up on him after receiving an ambiguous answer. Rimi is shown on an overpass talking to the real Takumi on her cellphone. Ban meets Hazuki in the hospital, who tells him a suspicious man went up the stairs to the roof. Yua is shown to have followed Ban to the hospital where she apparently confronts a delusion of her deceased twin sister Mia, who almost succeeds in leading her to her death. In the ensuing struggle, Yua awakens as a Gigalomaniac and obtains her Di-Sword. Suwa, revealed to be a part of the Church of Natural Divine Light, betrays Ban on the roof and shoots him. Meanwhile, Takumi is apparently visited by Nanami in his house, who turns out to be just a delusion when he tries to hug her and confirm his existence. Rimi goes to rescue Nanami, who is being held in the true location of Noah II. She encounters Norose and witnesses Nanami awaken as a Gigalomaniac as a result of physical injury and psychological torture where she obtains her Di-Sword. Rimi fails to rescue her due to a delusional psychological attack from Norose and is captured instead. Takumi goes to pedestrian scramble where he finds agitated crowds of people running amok. In the chaos, Shogun comes to tell Takumi that only he can stop Noah II.
